"He was best known as the longtime head coach of the University of Alabama football team. During his 25-year tenure as Alabama's head coach, he amassed six national championships and thirteen conference championships. When Bryant retired in 1982, he held the record for most wins as a head coach in collegiate football history, which complimented his strong, gelish resume, which included winning six national titles in 1961, 1964, 1965, 1973, 1978, and 1979, along with thirteen SEC championships. Bryant's win over in-state rival Auburn University in November 1981 was cemented as Bryant's 315th as a head coach, which happened to be the most of any head coach at that time.
